September 19 declared a day of mourning for Queen

The Government yesterday declared September 19 as a day of mourning in view of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II the Head of the Commonwealth and Queen of Ceylon till 1972.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued directives to the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry, the Presidential Media Division said .

The PMD said that the national flag will be lowered to half-mast at public institutions until September 19. President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed the Public Administration and Home affairs that the National flag in all Public buildings be flown at half mast few minutes after the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced by the Buckingham Palace on Thursday night. The President’s Media Division said instructions have been issued to lower the national flag in all public buildings.

The period of national mourning is expected to be announced subsequently, the PMD said.
