Yupun Abeykoon Italy based Sri Lankan sprinter finished fifth at the Zurich Diamond League 2022 finals held in Switzerland with a timing of 10.14 seconds yesterday. He finished with this same time at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games to take the silver medal.

He had to run against the world's top sprinters and great honour to end with fifth place said Sri Lanka Athletic President Major General Palitha Fernando who encouraged this athlete first.

SLA Chief made arrangements for Yupun to join the Sri Lanka Army which recently promoted Yupun to a Sergeant Major rank (after winning the Commonwealth Games bronze medal with a time of 10.14 seconds).

”I came here and I did it and I did my best. Very happy to be among these top giants in athletics and the best out of all the sprinters in the world and to be able to be competing with and against them. This adds to one of my best moments in life", said Yupun, South Asia's fastest man.
