Body of 7-year-old girl killed by mother and illegal husband exhumed

The body of a seven-year-old girl who allegedly had been killed about six months back by her mother and her illegal husband was exhumed from an abandoned mine in Nivithigala, Delwala, Gangapahala area yesterday.

The body was exhumed in the presence of Ratnapura Additional Magistrate Kanchana Kodituvakku.

The girl’s mother who is in remand was brought to the location when the body was being exhumed.

The body was exhumed by a group of workers after removing the water from the pit by a water spray machine on the court orders after Delwala Police presented the facts to Court regarding the death of the girl from Ratnapura.

According to Delwala Police, a seven-year-old girl, Harshika Kumari, who was studying in the second year of a school in Malsiripura, had been killed in this manner.

The girl's body had been thrown into the pit six months ago.

Police arrested two women on suspicion in connection with the incident. Among the suspects are 29-year-old mother of the girl and a 39-year-old pregnant woman.

Both are said to be having affairs with the main suspect who allegedly had beaten the girl to death. The main suspect is in hiding.
