Mother, daughter killings: Three Police teams appointed to arrest suspects

The Badulla Police found the bodies of two women who had been hacked to death with sharp weapons in a house in Higurugamuwa area of Badulla and another woman who had sustained serious cut injuries in the same house.

Three special Police teams have been appointed to arrest the suspects. The two murdered women, H.M. Ranmanika (85) and R.M .Jayavathi (55) were mother and daughter while cousin of one of the deceased, R.M. Misinona (60) sustained serious cut injuries.

Police said that she has been admitted to the Badulla Provincial General Hospital.

These two women were killed last Friday (9) night or Saturday morning and Police suspect that the crime was committed by some group or person who entered the house at night.

Police said that one of the women was dealing with pawned items and used to pay interest as her source of income. The reason for the murder has not been revealed so far.

Police said that statements have been obtained from several people.Badulla Headquarters Police have started further investigations into this incident on the advice of Badulla SP Sujith Vedamulla.
