Drop in daily electricity consumption

According to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the demand for daily electricity consumption has fallen to a record level in the last two months.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said that along with the increase in electricity tariffs recently, the demand for electricity has gradually decreased. Besides, with the present financial crisis a considerable number of medium and small-scale enterprises are not functioning and this situation may also have contributed to bringing down the daily electricity demand. Ratnayake said that a year ago the daily electricity consumption was approximately 49 million units and now the daily electricity demand has dropped to 39 million units.

Accordingly, it can be observed the reduction in daily electricity demand is about 10 million units.
