SP SDIG confident of wiping out crime in province

Southern Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana who disclosed that since June 1, 13 people have been killed in shootings at various locations within the province assured the people that within the forthcoming six weeks the police will restore law and order in the province.

Ajith Rohana who had been the DIG in charge of Crimes and Traffic recently assumed duties as Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Southern Province.

The police will not allow criminals to roam around with weapons and kill people in this way, he said, adding that legal action against these criminals would be taken in the next six weeks.

The Senior DIG was speaking as chief guest at the Southern Province Police Day celebrations which had been organized in view of 156th Police Day.

In the Southern Province, 13 people have been killed by gunmen since last June 1, four incidents of which were reported in the Ambalangoda area. One incident was reported in Uragaha and another incident in Pitigala. Two cases were reported in the Ahangama area. One case was reported in Rathgama and two more cases in the Middeniya area.

So far, comprehensive investigations have been carried out in relation to four incidents. Suspects related to those crimes have been arrested together with the weapons used for the crimes. Suspects in all remaining crimes have been identified, the SDIGP said.
