Acting Cabinet Spokesman Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said the government will take measures to lift the ban on the import of 300 consumer items soon after resolving the foreign exchange issue.
The Minister was responding to a journalist at this week’s Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department.
The Minister said that the government slapped a ban on the import of 300 consumer items like chocolates, perfumes and shampoos until further notice, as the country is tackling its worst economic crisis triggered by the acute shortage of foreign exchange.
The minister said that a large number of industrialists have made requests on this matter, and a Committee that meets every two weeks is expected to review this.
He further pointed out that this is not a permanent list.
