Sergeant remanded for accepting bribe

A police sergeant who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000, has been remanded till September 26.

The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate T.N.L.Ilangasinghe yesterday.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption officials informed the magistrate that the arrested Police officer further stated that the complainant’s woman son had been arrested by the police in connection with stealing a cabin of a three wheeler.

The CIABOC further stated that the arrested police sergeant has asked the complainant woman for Rs.60,000 to transfer a case in which a fine can be obtained without a drug case.

The arrested police officer is attached to the Kadawatha police.
