Ministers must answer questions in House - Chief Whip

Citing the decision taken at the first meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Chief Government Whip, Minister Prasanna Ranatunge has informed all ministers and state ministers in writing that they should attend parliament proceedings when oral questions related to their subjects are brought up under Standing Order 27(2), during adjournment debate or during general proceedings related to their subjects.

The Chief Government Whip, in his letter has also pointed out   that it is compulsory for ministers and state ministers who have been assigned to contribute to parliamentary debates or to intervene in proceedings effectively on a particular day to be present within the chambers from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

If unable to be present on such a date, Ranatunge has informed that the particular minister or state minister should nominate another minister or state minister to carry out the relevant tasks assigned to them and inform his or her nominee to the office of the Chief Government Whip.
