Wildlife DG awaiting further details over snake venom vaccine

Wildlife Director General (DG) Chandana Sooriyabandara says that his department is waiting further details in order to approve the request made by a Professor doing research related to a snake venom vaccine to extend the validity period of the license for his research.

Sooruabandara said he is expecting clarifications from the Professor regarding some additional matters.

The Professor conducting this research had requested to extend the validity period of the permit for his research.

He said this is done on the recommendation of a Research Committee consisting of external parties appointed for that purpose and the approval is given by the Director General of Wildlife based on the recommendations given by the relevant committee.

The Director General of Wildlife says that as soon as the details requested are received, the related activities will be carried out.

It was published in the media recently that the Wildlife Department did not cooperate with the research being carried out for the preparation of snake venom vaccine in Sri Lanka and Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had given instructions to the Wildlife Department to provide him with information in this regard as soon as possible.
