Brother says Ishalini may have been sexually abused at Rishad’s house

The brother of burn victim J.Ishalini stated that the autopsy report of her sister states that she was sexually abused but she did not have a relationship with anyone while she was at home.

He made these remarks when the case pertaining to the death of the 16-year-old girl who died of burn injuries while working as a domestic in the house of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, was taken up before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday.

He further stated that they have suspicion regarding the death of her sister. The mother of the deceased girl also testified that her daughter did not come back to her house after she went to work as a maid in that house and that she had informed over the phone that she was being assaulted. She also stated that she did not get a chance meet her daughter as well.

She stated that this incident happened when she was about to take her daughter back home and that despite being in the emergency room for 12 days, she could not talk to her daughter because her mouth was covered with a piece of cloth and bandages were wrapped all over her body.

J. Ishalini, a 16-year-old girl, was hospitalized with burn injuries on July 3, 2020 while working as a housemaid at the former minister’s residence in Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo. She died on the July 15 while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital.

The victim J.Ishalini was a resident of Diyagama West in Agarapathana and has been brought by a broker to the Bathiudeen residence in October 2020, when she was 15 years old.
