Kingswood take under 18 Rugby Sevens Title

On Sunday Central Province Rugby Referees Society had a 7’s rugby tournament for schools where 12 teams competed with each other at the Trinity College rugby grounds at Pallekelle. This was the first time that Under18 Boys Sevens Tourney was organized by Central Province Referees. This tournament was held to develop players who are skillful, faster, and stronger and want to play an exciting brand of rugby.

It was nice to see the under 18 players who are well trained playing good rugby and at the end Kingswood College led by Randila Ranaweera did their best to beat Trinity College led by Athab Manzil by 14 points to 7 in the cup final, At half time the score board read 7 all. The players who did well and scored tries for the winners were Anuda Sikurajapathi and Imanka Ishara and the goal kicking was done by Imanka Ishara. For the Trinitians it was Chamendra Dhanapala who scored the try and Anuhas Kodithwakku did the goal kicking. On the way to the finals Kingswood College beat St. Anthony’s College 14-12 in the semi finals and Trinity College beat Dharmaraja College 26-19.

St. Anthony’s College gave a good display of rugby to win the Plate championship and Vidyartha College with a talented side won the Bowl championship. Two schools who give a bg hand for the game of rugby St.Sylvester’s College and Wariiiyapola Sri Sumangala College were not in the scene of the tournament. Some of the schools which took part were Sri Rahula College, St.Anthony’s College, Trinity College Kingswood College, Dharmaraja College, Sarasaviuyana MV, Chandrananda MV, Madena Central, Matale St. Thoams’ College, Nugawela Central.
