Sri Lanka’s top order stroke player of the T 20 format Kusal Mendis, mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana and 21-year-old left-arm speedster Dilshan Madushanka will play in the inaugural South Africa 20 League. This is the first time Dilshsn Madushanka got chance to play franchise cricket in overseas at the player auction for the inaugural SA T20 League.

A total of 533 players went under the hammer at the auction with 102 players chosen at the end of eight hours of bidding.

Sri Lanka’s latest pace sensation Madushanka was the first Sri Lankan to be picked in the auction where he was sold to Durban Super Giants for a price of South African Rands 275, 000 equivalent to approximately Rs. 5,566,000.

This is going to be a good opportunity for young left arm paceman from Hungama Vijayabahu MV after his achievement from the recently concluded Asia Cup cricket tournament paved the way to get success. He was lucky to get the prized wicket of Virat Kohli for a duck at the Sri Lanka - India match which was turning point of the Sri Lanka victory over India.

Sri Lanka’s T20 opening batter Kusal Mendis was bought by Pretoria Capitals for a price of South African Rands 425,000 equivalent to approximately Rs. 8,613,000. Mendis was also in good form during the Asia Cup was able to make good platform for the Sri Lanka team at Asia Cup.

Maheesh Theekshana had already been picked by Johannesburg Super Kings in the pre-auction direct-acquisition process.

Meanwhile six franchised teams namely MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape will be participating in the tournament which will be held in a window in January-February 2023. However Sri Lankan players have to get approval from the SLC for this franchise cricket as not to avoid National duties.
