Market turns green

Colombo market turned green yesterday after three-session fall with the participation of mainly foreign and local investors.

Thus, All-Share Price Index increased by 12.1 points (+0.1%) to close at 9,913.2 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also increased by 14.4 points (+0.5%) to close at 3,199.9. Lanka IOC, Sampath Bank, ACL Cables, DFCC Bank, Lanka IOC and Aitken Spence and Royal Ceramics remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 4,607.7 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs.4,134.9 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 112,574.5k against the 12-month average daily volume of 195,100.6k. Capital Goods and Banks mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 1.2 bn (+0.8%), Lanka IOC Rs.804.6 mn (+3.8%), ACL Cables Rs. 313.7 mn (+8.9%), Printcare Rs. 151.6 mn (+14.6), and Hayleys Rs. 125.0 mn (-2.5%).

Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 1.0 bn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 1,039.8 bn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.49.4 mn. Top foreign buying counters EXPO LKR. 968.6 mn, KOTA LKR. 8.0 mn, CIC LKR. 5.6 mn, SAMP LKR. 4.3 mn, JKH LKR. 3.7 mn and LWL LKR. 3.5 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were CIC LKR. (3.3) mn, ACL LKR. (3.3) mn, CFLB LKR. (2.8) mn, ASIY LKR. (1.9) mn, LLUB LKR. (1.8) mn and LIOC LKR. (1.6) mn. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Expolanka Holdings (Rs.934.8 mn), Lanka IOC (Rs.70.5 mn) and CIC Holdings (Rs.67.5 mn) yesterday.

Additionally, Lanka Ashok Layland, Radiant Gems, Nation Lanka Finance, Printcare and ACL Cables were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Abans Finance, Alliance Finance, Bogala Graphite, Laugfs Gas (Non-Voting) and Abans Electricals were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, SMB Leasing (Voting), Asia Siyaka Commodities, First Capital and Expolanka Holdings and were among the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
