Minor export crops rake in US$ 460 mn last year

Plantation Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana told Parliament yesterday that the country earned US$ 460 million from the export of minor export crops including cinnamon, pepper and cardamom.

He was responding to a question by SLPP Parliamentarian Sumith Udukumbura.

Sri Lanka earned US$460 million last year from the export of minor export crops including cinnamon, pepper and cardamom.

The minister further said that the same amount of foreign exchange could be obtained this year as well. The Minister said that there was a 30 percent increase in export income in 2021 compared to 2020 and that many industries have been given support by the Agriculture Modernization Project under the Asian Development Bank loan support for the value chain programme.
