Extraordinary Gazette issued declaring several areas as HSZs

An Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued under the hand of President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday declaring several areas in Colombo as High Security Zones (HSZs).

Accordingly Parliament Complex, Supreme Court Complex, High Court Complex- Colombo, Magistrate Court Complex- Colombo and Attorney General’s Department, Presidential Secretariat, President’s House, Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters and Police Headquarters, The Ministry of Defence and Sri Lanka Army Headquarters- Akuregoda, Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters- (Slave Island), Prime Minister’s Office (Flower Road), Temple Trees (Kollupitiya), Official Residencies of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the Commanders of Tri Forces have been declared as High Security Zone

The boundaries of each High Security Zone have also been published in the Gazette notification which has been issued on the order made by the President under Section 2 of Official Secrets Act, No. 32 of 1955

Chief Government Whip and Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga recently said that newly appointed State Ministers will enjoy no privileges and therefore, they will not be a burden to the country.

Earlier, only 20 Ministers were appointed and it became more difficult to maintain lots of institutions coming under Ministries with that scale, he said.

Ranatunga said that these State Ministers will receive only the average salary of a Member of Parliament. Therefore, they will not be a big burden to the Government.
