Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court Lawyers’ Association says that a peaceful demonstration is scheduled to be held in front of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (27) to revoke the court complexes from the extraordinary gazette notification that designated them as “High Security Zones” (HSZ).
On September 23, Several areas in and around Colombo have been declared as High Security Zones by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Issuing a media release yesterday, the Association has strongly condemned the decision taken by the President to name the court complex as a high security zone.
“It is emphasized that the said decision was taken without any need of time and that it may have an undue influence on the rule of law”, the Association further added.
The Association further highlighted that they will discuss with the President and the Minister of Justice to amend the relevant gazette notification and to remove the court complexes from the high security zone list.
The Colombo Magistrates’ Court Lawyers’ Association stated that if there is no positive response through these measures, it has unanimously decided to take strict professional measures.
