The World Tourism Organization of the United Nations declared this day in 1980 with the aim of creating a sustainable and responsible tourism industry that can be universally accessible to everyone. Since then, World
Tourism Day is celebrated every year on September 27.
Sri Lanka has taken steps to celebrate Tourism Day this year to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, which has suffered a severe setback due to the COVID-19 pandemic and accordingly arrangements have been made to hold the National Festival of World Tourism Day in Habarana.
Simultaneously, various programmes have been organised in Colombo and Arugambay.
