Airport security man arrested over gold smuggling

An airport senior security officer who tried to smuggle eight gold biscuits weighing a kilogramme worth over Rs.20 million rupees  out of the Katunayake airport was arrested yesterday by Customs Narcotics Control Division pfficers.

The suspect is a 40-year-old airport security officer residing in Kelaniya.

Customs Narcotics Control Division officials suspect that an Indian national passenger who came from Dubai yesterday morning may have given this stock of gold biscuits to this security officer at the Katunayake Airport transit passenger terminal.

This arrest was made by the Customs Narcotics Control Division officers when the airport security officer was trying to smuggle the stock of gold biscuits hidden inside his trouser pocket at the arrival terminal of the airport.

The Katunayake airport Customs officers have detained this security officer and investigations will continue.
