Some SLFPers are unable to remain without positions - Maithri

Addressing a meeting of party workers in Kegalle, former President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that some members of the Party are unable to remain without positions in the ruling party.

He said that since assassination of former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, the SLFP had to face various problems and his party had to suffer during the rule of former President J.R.Jayewardene.

He said that he staged a protest with thousands of people in Polonnaruwa when former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike was denied of her civic rights.

“We were assaulted while we were protesting on the road. Later, I was jailed for 3 months. We suffered for 17 years but we did not join the then Government nor did we ask for any positions in a corporation,” he said.
