Grade 10 student Ujitha completes O/L with nine A’s

A Grade 10 student of the Sri Pada National School, Hatton who had left school and sat for the GCE  Ordinary Level Examination in 2021, as a private candidate has obtained nine ‘A’s.

Borala Liyanage Ujitha Chithramal Iranjin (16), resident at Wilfredpura, Hatton, had been studying in Australia for around eight years and returned to Sri Lanka in 2016. He had sat for the Grade Five Scholarship Examination at the Ginigathhena Central College and had passed it with 169 marks.

Subsequently, this student had obtained his education from Grade 9 until the first quarter of Grade 10 at the Sri Pada National School but left the school prior to sitting for the GCE O Level

examination in 2021 and applied to do the examination privately.

Ujitha Chithramal Iranjin said his father was a Maths teacher and that his mother was an English teacher at Gabriel College, Hatton. He also said he had an elder and a younger sister.

The elder sister is preparing to sit for the GCE Advanced Level examination in the year 2023. I told my parents that I wanted to sit for the GCE O Level.

As a student studying in a government school is unable to sit for the examination as a private candidate, I left school and completely covered all syllabuses pertaining to the subjects of the GCE O Level.

I received great support for this from my teachers, my parents and sisters. My father and mother gave me maximum support because of my dedication, interest and determination.

Prior to sitting for the 2022 GCE O L at which I was due to appear for as a school student, I privately applied and sat for the 2021 examination and obtained excellent results. If one has the dedication, interest and determination, one can easily do this. I am preparing to sit for the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2023 in the Bio stream. I hope to become a doctor. Indika Sudarshani, the mother of the student, said that she and her husband are both teachers, and that her husband has now left the teaching profession and is engaged in business activities.
