Nippon Paint Rugby League from next week

Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) joined hands with Nippon Paint Lanka in launching the new look 2022/23 Inter-Club rugby season at a ceremony held at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo yesterday.

President SLR, Rizly Illyas, Secretary SLR Nizam Jamaldeen and General Manager of Nippon Paint Lanka participated at this launching ceremony along with the eight captains of the competing teams.

The participating teams in this year’s tournament are Kandy SC, Havelock SC, CR and FC, CH and FC, Police SC, Army SC, Air Force SC and Navy SC.

In fact, Navy SC will take on Police SC in the curtain-raiser match of the tournament on December 9 at Welisara.

All captains expressed their confidence of putting up a good performance having packed their squads with several schoolboys who excelled during the concluded Inter-Schools Rugby Tournament.

Meanwhile, President SLR, Rizly Illyas said that the Inter-Club Knock-Out Tournament will also be worked off, while targeting the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China and the South Asian Games in Lahore, Pakistan.

Nippon Paint General Manager, Nemantha Abeysinghe believed that rugby football has a great spectator interest among everyone and would make every effort to promote the sport in the country.
