Colombo University Men’s Hockey team proved their supremacy in the field of hockey when they emerged unbeaten champions at the recently concluded Inter-University Hockey Tournament played at Police Park Colombo.

The team captained by Avishka Chiranthana with Damish Nisal as his deputy proved their dominance in the sport by emerging worthy champions after defeating the dark horses of the tournament, the University of Jaffna in the finals. On their way to the championship they beat University of Wayamba and University of Moratuwa in the league round. In the quarter finals they defeated University of Ruhuna and then went on to beat University of Sri Jayewardenepura in the Semi finals.

The stickers of the University of Colombo dished out a superb display of fast open hockey with crafty stick work and beautiful passing movements throughout the tournament and emerged worthy champions.

Colombo University Women’s Hockey team too grabbed honours when they emerged second Runner-Up in the tournament, the lasses from the University of Colombo led by Nihinsa Vidanapathirana and Yadeesha Weerasinghe as the vice-captain comprehensively beat University of Kalaniya in the match for the third Place. They defeated University of Peradeniya and University of Ruhuna in the league round and beat University of Moratuwa in the quarter final. Their only set back in the tournament was losing to University of Sri Jayawardenapura in the semi finals.
