CID granted permission to conduct DNA test on Schaffter’s body parts

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday granted permission for the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) to conduct a DNA test using the blood samples, nails and certain body parts of Janashakthi Group Director Dinesh Schaffter.

The Magistrate made this order subsequent to a request made by the Criminal Investigations Department. The CID made this request based on Section 124 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The Court had earlier imposed an overseas travel ban on former Cricket commentator Brian Thomas over the murder of Colombo-based businessman Dinesh Schaffter. Schaffter was found bound and choked inside his car on December 15 afternoon at the General Cemetery in Borella.He was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while being treated in the ICU.
