The Police Special Task Force (STF) shot at a car at Rathgama which failed to heed Police orders to stop in the wee hours of January 1.
It was reported that the STF had attempted to stop two cars including one which was pursuing the other following a clash between the drivers of the two cars. One of the cars with two passengers had stopped obeying the Police orders but the other had fled, injuring a Police intelligence officer and crashing into a three-wheeler.
“The STF had fired into the air signalling the fleeing car to stop, but when the driver failed to heed the order, the officers fired at the car,” Police said.
The driver had even then failed to halt the vehicle and had driven the car to the Rathgama Police station for his safety. Police recovered a sword and clubs inside both cars and the driver of the car, which was shot at, had been arrested.
According to Hikkaduwa Police, a clash had occurred between two parties who were drunk on December 31 night at Hikkaduwa, following which the chase had begun. Police are investigating.
