“We made good suggestions with the blessings of Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe and all of them paved the way to uplift Sri Lanka Sports said outgoing Secretary of the Sports Ministry Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva.

Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe treated all sports alike. His vision is very clear and never gave a decision in favour of one side. As the former Sports Ministry Secretary we had very successful discussions and recently Sports Minister took a decision to make amendments to the Sports Constitutions and all of these decisions for benefit of sports development said Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva who is a specialist doctor by profession and was a former National cyclist and former President of the National Cycle Federation.

Actually we worked in harmony with our staff, Director General Amal Edirisooriya, other Secretaries and Directors and senior officials.

We have more than 60 National sports Bodies while only 45 took part in our discussions and few of them always get close with the Sports Ministry. I knew most of the Officials are very keen to get their respective posts at the National Sports Bodies but most of them are not actively involved with their sports and some did not look after athletes.

We knew most of the Sports Body officials are keen to come to Sports Ministry for asking for money for the foreign tours and due to the present situation Sports Ministry couldn’t provide financial support.

I wonder why can’t sport body officials try hard to find sponsors at least for their sports. We have a High-Performance Pool representing all key sports such as athletics, weightlifting, Table Tennis, Badminton, Gymnastics, Para sports and etc and Sports Development Department give infrastructure facilities including finance for them.

Actually elected Sri Lanka Cricket officials doing a decent job while they used to give their support for the Sports Ministry as well as other sports like Athletics and Netball and Sri Lanka Cricket is a good example for all other Sports Bodies.

National Sports Council headed by Arjuna Ranatunga and National Selection Committee headed by General Shavendra Silva always work closely with the Sports Ministry and we wanted to continue this to go forward added former Sports Ministry Secretary.

Today new Sports Ministry Secretary K. Mahesan assumed duties while he was the former Jaffna GA and District Secretary having good experience and a good knowledge of administration service and hope his service will bring success for the Sports Ministry, said Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva.
