Two teens held for slipping away from parents

A17-year-old boy who had come to Galle city with a 14-year-old schoolgirl was arrested on Tuesday (3) by Galle Police.

Police investigations reveal that the boy had abducted the girl from parental custody when she had come to Padukka with her mother to buy a Buddha statue.

The suspect is from Nawagamuwa. Police said that he is engaged in the weekly fair trading activities with his father. Police also found that the youth had Rs. 384,000 stolen from his father.

The girl’s mother, who had come to Padukka on Monday (2) with her daughter, had gone to the shop to buy a Buddha statue. At that time, the girl had been outside the shop. Then the suspect who came to the place had abducted the girl and both of them arrived in Galle city by bus.

According to information received by the police, when these two teenagers were sitting on a bench at Galle Rathgama Wella Fishing Anchorage, two police officers of the Divisional Criminal Investigation Division of Galle Police had gone to the place and arrested the suspect and the girl.
