Malathi Parasuraman has been appointed as the new Director General of the Agriculture Department.
The appointment was made by the Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
Parasuraman who has a high knowledge of agricultural technology, is the only Tamil agricultural activist who has been appointed to that position thus far. She also worked as the Additional Secretary of the Agriculture Technology Division of the Agriculture Department.
She has done a lot of research in the field of agriculture, especially on the Gannoruwa A9 variety, introduction of the first bean genetic research called HOB-2, introduction of Hordi tomato HY3 variety, introduction of a new hybrid capsicum variety named Prarthana, etc.
During her stint as researcher in the Agriculture Department, many research projects were carried out.
