The ‘Uththara Lanka Sabhagaya’ (ULS) has decided to contest the upcoming Local Government election under a broad national alliance, said the Vice President of the Sri Lanka Communist Party, MP Weerasumana Weerasinghe.
He stated this speaking to the media following a meeting of the ULS held yesterday.
He said that currently the ULS is holding discussions with other political parties and alliances including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Nidahas Janatha Sabhawa.
The final decision on the name, symbol and the composition of the proposed alliance will be announced by the ULS following the discussions with the allied parties, he said.
It is also expected to appoint a board of leaders to guide the alliance, the MP said.
“We requested a Presidential Election or a General Election. But, they gave the Local Government poll. The government expects to contest this poll jointly by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the United National Party. Therefore, we will form a broad alliance against that alliance,”MP Weerasinghe further said.
