S.Theekshana Hasarel and K.N.R.Fernando, two boys in Adv.Level classes at Wadduwa Central National School, won gold and silver medals, respectively, at the Youth Asian Powerlifting Championship held in the Maisoor Province, in India recently.
Hasarel competed in the 83KG weight class while K.N.R.Fernando competed in the 66KG weight class. I.P.Nandasena, the Director of Shakthi Power Lifting Academy, Wadduwa was their coach.
A ten member team of young school power lifters was sent to India to participate in this international Power Lifting Championship held from December 26 to 30 and over fifty power lifters from eight countries took part in the event. Sri Lanka won a total of eight gold medals and two silver medals at this tournament.
These two boys who brought fame and honor to their alma mater were felicitated at a special felicitation ceremony and a special meeting organized and held by the Principal of Wadduwa Central National School Ranasinghe Indrasena, on January 2.
