Hand grenade brought by road worker himself - Police

Police investigations have revealed that the hand grenade that was found in a polythene bag and hung on a tree at a road in Bambalapitiya recently was brought there by the employee of the private company engaged in road cleaning is the same person informed the Police about the hand-grenade.

Accordingly, the Bambalapitiya Police arrested the employee, N.Mohammed alias George (65), a resident of Moranthuduwa yesterday.

This JR-type of a bomb was found hanging in a polythene bag on a tree near the Bauddhaloka Mawatha on December 31. After the road cleaning worker informed the Police about this, the Police has come to the place and conducted an investigation. Then the Police took the bomb into their custody. After checking the security camera footage of the surrounding buildings to find out who brought this bomb to the place, it revealed that the same person who gave the information about the bomb to the police brought it there. Further, when he was questioned about it, he said that he found this hand grenade in his house in Moronthuduwa where he has been living for 12 years and he brought it in his bag.

Police say that this person has been arrested on suspicion as he makes various statements from time to time and investigations are underway.
