When his documents were being checked by officials of the Department of Emigration and Immigration on arrival at the Katunayake Airport the computer system of the department has

indicated that a ban on air travel and going out of the country had been imposed on Gamage.

However, since there was no prohibition on his entering the country he had been allowed to go outside but officers of the Katunayake Airport Police had come and presented a written request for his arrest and taken him into custody.

He was arrested thus, based on a request of the Cinnamon Gardens Police under the allegation that he had entered the Rupavahini Corporation and caused damage to government property.

A group of activists involved in the ‘Aragalaya’ are carrying out a protest objecting to his arrest, opposite the Katunayake Police Station.

The arrest had been carried out by Police Constable 3713 Lakmal on the orders of Chief Inspector of Police Janaka Senadheera, Officer-In-Charge of the Katunayake Airport Police.
