ASP finds three officers sleeping while on night patrol duty

Hambantota Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) caught three police officers, who were deployed on night patrol duty for the safety of the people of 6 Gramseva Divisions in Hambantota, when they were sleeping in the Bachelors quarters of the police station, instead of being engaged in patrol duty.

Hambantota ASP R. A. P. Perera had suddenly come to the Hambantota Port Police Station at about 3.00 a.m. day before yesterday (4) to check whether police officers were engaged in their duties properly.

When he had inspected the books, it had become apparent that a Sergeant and two Police constables had been appointed to carry out patrol duty in the night. When the ASP had inquired about these three officers, he had found out that they were asleep at the bachelors’ quarters of the police station.

The ASP had seen that these three police officers had indicated in the book that they would be carrying out night patrol duty from 10.00 pm to 6.00 am, but they were asleep. Accordingly ASP R. A. P. Perera had taken steps to indict the Sergeant and the two constables.
