A Russian national who had come as a tourist to this country had obtained a vehicle for hire from a rent-a-car company and committed a fraud by not paying the amount owed was arrested by the Kollupitiya Police on Thursday (05).
The Russian national in question had engaged in this fraud after travelling from Colombo to Unawatuna according to a Police Officer from the Kollupitiya Police. Police said that based on a complaint received from the rent-a-car company, the Russian had been taken into custody and that they discovered that he did not have any document including a passport with him.
The rent-a-car company had told the Police that the Russian owed them a sum of Rs.50,000.Subsequent to the Russian who was taken into custody being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday (06), the Police said he was remanded until January 9.
