The Police Special Task Force (STF) has unearthed information about a group which is trying to mobilize young people from various areas in the North through WhatsApp to engage in violent acts in the province.
The STF issuing a statement in this regard said according to the information obtained during the interrogation of a suspect arrested by the STF Vavuniya camp, on January 5, in the Puwarasankulam police division, details emerged about a WhatsApp group known as ‘Geththu Pasanga’, which is promoting violent activities in the Puwarasankulam, Thattankulam and Settikulam areas.
Accordingly, the officers who acted immediately arrested four persons, all 18 years old, residing in Vavuniya, and seized four mobile phones and handed them over to the Puwarasankulam Police Station for further investigation. The police are investigating the matter further.
