Thal arrack to hit islandwide taverns

In a bid to aggressively promote Palmyrah arrack all over Sri Lanka, Palmyrah Development Board would be appointing regional agents out of North for distribution.

With the recent increase of local spirits by 20% Palmyrah arrack popularly known as Thal, still remains the cheapest brand.

“However the product availability is less and we want to boost the monthly regional sales from 1,000 to nearly 5,000 through appointing dealers’ allover Sri Lanka,” said, Chairman, Palmyrah Development Board Krishantha Pathiraja. He said that with their recent opening of Palmyrah Research Centre in Jaffna which was an initiative by the Minister of Plantation Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Palmyrah arrack, Brandy, toddy and wine manufacturers in North have increased quality maintaining the same price.

“With the increase in sale volumes through this initiative the demand for sap would increase resulting in Palmyrah tappers gaining more revenue and also resulting in untapped trees being tapped.” He said that due to cultural issues they are not marketing Palmyrah spirits in their Colombo Marketing Sales Center.
