Suspect arrested for assaulting Police Officer

Poddala police arrested a suspect who is said to be a drug smuggler for assaulting a police officer with a helmet during a musical show in Poddala in Sunday morning.

The police officer had faced this attack during an attempt to resolve a clash between two parties at the musical show.

The 19-year-old suspect, Ashan Udara alias Podi Sudu, is a resident of Wekunagoda, Galle. His mother has also been identified as a drug smuggler, the police said.

Sergeant Soyza, who was injured in the attack, has been admitted to the hospital.

Poddala Police said that the suspect was remanded till January 13 by the Galle Magistrate Court and an identification parade will be held to identify the suspect.
