Cabinet nod for cost reflective electricity tariff this month

The Cabinet of Ministers granted its approval to amend the general policy guidelines for the electricity industry and to implement a cost reflective electricity tariff, the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekata tweeted yesterday. According to him this is expected to be implemented from this January.

The Cabinet of Ministers last week postponed taking a decision on increasing the electricity tariff to this week.

Accordingly the decision to amend the general policy guidelines and to implement a cost reflective electricity tariff was taken by the cabinet of ministers at yesterday’s meeting.
