Fifteen year old Black Belt holder. Karate Champion Gold Medalist in Kata and Kumite, Karate National title holder. Member of the Sri Lanka National Karate Pool Sanduni Sansala Marasinghe has brought honour and immense glory for her two schools Napokuna Junior School and Sandalankawa Central College with her deeds in the field of Karate.
Sanduni who hails from Napokuna, Gonawila was born on 10* June 2007 and admitted initially to her village school Napokuna Junior School and she participated in the school inter house athletic meets when she was in grade four and five and won places in 50, 100 meters and relay events and she was the Band Leader too. In 2015 her Parents Chatura Buddhika and
Chamari Nisansala handed over their daughter to the Principal of the school M.Chintaka who was in charge of Karate too to commence Karate and came under Sugath Liyanage and Dasun Sathsara.
After a strenuous and a tight schedule her first attempt was as an under eight competitor at the Kensho Karate International Championship held in Galle and she bagged a Gold Medal in Kata and same year participating at the All Island Karate Championship in the under 9 age group she won a Gold for Kata.
Then in 2017 at the Kurunegala District and North Western Province meets she won two Golds each in both these meets and at the Sri Lanka Friends Karate Championship as an under 12 competitor she grabbed a Gold in Kumite and in the Open IntemationaSemi Contact Karate Championship she won Golds for Kata and Kumite.
In 2018 she was drafted to the grade six of Sandalankawa Central College and the Coaches were the same and the Principal and Prefect of Games were Asanka Chintaka and Mrs.Erandima respectively and her first attempt there was Sri Lanka Schools Karate Junior Championship and she won a Gold in Kumite and she got an opportunity to participate at the Shimoga Open
International Karate Championship in Bangalore, India in 2018 and she won Golds for Kumite and Kata and it was a fine exposure for her Karate career and in the same year at the District Meet she won Golds for Kata and Kumite. Her next attempt was at the 2019 as an under 14 participant at the National Schools Karate Do Championship and she collected a Bronze in Kumite and at the Kurunegala District Karate Championship she won Golds for Kata and Kumite and won a Bronze at the Provincial meet for Kumite.
Last year at the National Schools meet conducted by Karate Do Federation for Black Belt Competition for Females and at the under 14 age group she won a Gold in Kumite and with these performances under her belt she was selected for the Sri Lanka National Team and at the meet held in Torrington Colombo she won a Gold for Kumite. Finally at the Open Karate Championship for Black Belters Cadet event under 14/15 category she won a Gold for Kumite and at the National meet held at Sugathadasa Stadium she won a Gold for Kumite and she was selected for the National Pool for South Asian Black Belters 2022 Championship and in the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation meet under 14/15 category she won a Silver for Kumite. During the span of six years she has won 24 Medals which consisted of 21 Golds, One Silver and Two Bronzes which is a great performance indeed and in addition she is the school police cadet sergeant.
