Courtyard by Marriott opens in Colombo

Introducing an iconic global brand name to the Colombo hospitality sector the Courtyard by Marriott opened in Colombo 2 last week.

Courtyard by Marriott offers 164-keys which includes four suites and is classified as a four star business hotel. Award-winning international hotelier with over 25 years of experience Elton Hurtis has been appointed the General Manager of the soon-to-be-launched Courtyard by Marriott Colombo and speaking to Daily News Business he said that this opening signify the entry of another global brand to Sri Lanka and is a stamp of confidence and a boost for the leisure sector Sri Lanka. He said that Sri Lanka was always ready to accommodate international travelers and they expect to maintain around 40% occupancy towards the early part of 2023 and pick up towards the end of the year.

“Today Sri Lanka is not only a destination for tourists but a major attraction for investment, business travelers and is turning out to be a preferred destination for international weddings and conferences.”

The rooms which offer accommodation in five floors of the 47 floor ICC property are equipped with a functional work area, smart amenities, and high-speed internet access, making it an ideal stay option for business and leisure travelers. Two separate floors are allocated for the reception and function areas and also for a car park. Other amenities of Courtyard by Marriott include a 24-hour fitness centre, an outdoor swimming pool and three meeting rooms and large dining area which offer daily buffets for all three meals.

The hospitality giant, Marriot which has over 1,250 hotels in 60 countries, has signed an agreement with Colombo City Centre Partners (Private) Limited, part of the Abans Group which invested USD 200 million to launch this hotel. This is the third property by Marriott International, Inc. an American multinational company that operates, franchises, and licenses lodging including hotels, in Sri Lanka after Marriott Weligama and Turtle Beach Kosgoda. The hotel group will also open two more hotels in Sri Lanka under the Ritz Carlton brand in Colombo and another Marriott in Negombo.
