Billed as the most successful exhibition in its thirty year history since inception, FACETS Sri Lanka Premier Edition concluded at Cinnamon Grand Colombo on Monday January 9.
With Sri Lanka battling numerous crises since 2020 due to the pandemic and an unprecedented economic crisis, the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association spearheaded the mooting and planning of the exhibition in just three months adding fillip to the country’s foreign exchange potential.
According to Chairman of the FACETS Sri Lanka Altaf Iqbal, “The industry showed extreme courage when it decided to organise the exhibition making it the first international event in Sri Lanka, post crises, showcasing that the island is safe and very open for business as usual.” The message permeated across the globe as Sri Lanka hosted almost one hundred buyers and dealers from twenty countries who are firm believers in the quality of Sri Lankan gems and the ability of the industry to deliver the high-end quality required from these discerning buyers.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association Ajward Deen quantified the numbers saying, “In just three days, we have had sales and orders of over USD 10 million, which is not only significant but also showcases the industry’s potential in being a large contributor of foreign exchange to the country, especially in these troubled times.”
The three days also had over five thousand visitors to the exhibition which was conceptualized on showcasing the extraordinary quality of Sri Lankan gems, while highlighting the spectacular Ceylon Sapphire which stands among the best gemstones in the world.
