Police probe on death of man taken out on drug raid

Maradana Police has initiated an investigation into the death of a management assistant attached to a government institution in Narahanpita after he was arrested by the Police Narcotics bureau.

This person in question has been arrested in connection with drug smuggling case connected to drug baron Podi Lassie. Police Narcotics Bureau officials say that that he was taken to a place close to the police barracks near the Lotus Tower to find hidden drugs.

The deceased has been identified as A.G.S. Preethi Kumara. PNB officials said that the youth was under the influence of liquor at that time.

The Police Narcotics Bureau said that while questioning him, he broke a glass bottle and tried to attack the police officers. The Police Narcotics Bureau also states that the young man who behaved violently was beaten with a stick to control him. The Police stated that the young man fell unconscious and was pronounced dead when he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

The post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday by a team of forensic experts at the Colombo National Hospital to confirm whether the death of this young man was due to police assault or otherwise.
