Amaraweera’s removal as UPFA SG: Defendants told to file objections on Feb. 23

The Colombo District Court yesterday ordered former President Maithripala Sirisena and other defendants to file their objections on February 23 over the case filed by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera challenging the decision    to remove him from the post of Secretary General of United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

The case was filed by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to several defendants, including President of the United People’s Freedom Alliance Maithripala Sirisena, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Vadivel Suresh, Thilanga Sumathipala and others. The case was taken up before Colombo District Court Judge Purnima Paranagama.

The case was filed through Attorney Gayan Salwathure Arachchi. Attorney Suren Fernando appeared.

The prosecution sought an injunction be issued suspending the implementation of the decision of the United People’s Freedom Alliance to remove Minister Mahinda Amaraweera from the party.
