Measures taken to address malnutrition among children in Batticaloa

UNICEF representative in Sri Lanka Christian Skoog met Batticaloa District Additional Government Agent (Land) Navaruparanjani Mugunthan at the District Secretariat on Tuesday (10).

At this meeting, the problem of malnutrition and stunted growth among poverty-stricken children in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts was discussed and the measures taken by the Health and Education Departments in 2022 were reviewed.

Problems arising out of the present economic crisis such as children dropping out of school were also discussed. Other issues taken up were child abuse, mental health of children and use of drugs by children.
