The Animal Production and Health Department has decided to calculate and publish the production cost for an egg weekly, which was calculated monthly until now. Animal Production and Health Department Director General Dr. Hemali Kothalawala said the publication of the cost of production per egg was done monthly until last December. But based on the problem related to the price of eggs in the market, it was decided to publish it weekly.
Thus, the production cost of an egg will be announced on Friday every week. She further said an egg can be delivered to consumers at a price less than Rs.50 considering the current production cost.
The Director General stated that the egg price is determined by the Consumer Affairs Authority although recommendations are given by various parties regarding the price of eggs.
