Sri Lanka is looking to level the series as they will play against India in their second ODI today at Eden Garden in Kolkata and the game will commence at 2 pm Sri Lanka time.
The venue has good memories as Sri Lanka met India at the 1996 World Cup when the game was halted by match referee Clive Lloyd after poor behavior by the Indian spectators and finally the victory was awarded to Sri Lanka.
The high-scoring first ODI in Guwahati proved the batting strength of both teams while they got 679 runs in the game. However this time Sri Lanka wanted to bowl more aggressively to pose a big challenge against a strong India batting lineup. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kholi are in superb form while Shubman Gill the opener, and K.L Rahul wicketkeeper batter are also among the runs.
The Sri Lanka team most probably make only one change from the first game as injured Dilshan Madushanka is going out and his place goes to paceman Lahiru Kumara. All other first-match players are expected to play today.
The top order has to pave a solid platform while bowers have to make a good challenge and improve today said skipper Dasun Shanaka who made his second ODI century in the first game. As an ODI player I couldn’t really perform well as a batter but with this century I got a big boost and wanted to continue my form added Dasun Shanaka. We wanted to observe the wicket and make the final eleven. A light training session was held yesterday to get some idea about the venue, added a Sri Lanka team management official.
Meanwhile paceman Dilshan Madushanka dislocated his right shoulder while diving in the outfield during the 1st ODI. Sri Lanka cricket media stated Madushanka was sent for an X-ray and an MRI yesterday to assess his level of medical condition. Upon receiving the said reports, the team management will decide on the future course of action pertaining to the player.
In addition, all rounder Chamika Karunaratne's upper lip was injured after being struck by a ball just before the toss of the first ODI.
He got three stitches and took part in the game as per the recommendation of the team's medical staff. He is expected to be available for the second ODI today.
