Sri Lanka edged out Indonesia 5-4 on penalties in their AHF Cup Men’s Junior Hockey Tournament first playoff match played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman yesterday.

Sri Lanka, of course, were heading towards a comfortable victory at one stage having built up a commanding 3-0 lead at half time but in a dramatic turnaround, Indonesia scored three goals to level the scores at the final whistle.

Sri Lanka dominated the early stages and were in total control of the situation as they started their campaign to redeem some lost pride after having failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the main competition.

Now they have a great chance of securing fifth place in the competition with two more games coming up against Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei.

Sri Lanka were pushed to the playoff category of the tournament after they finished third in Group ‘B’ while recording just a solitary victory.
