Wimalasena Perera re-appointed National Athletic selection head

Former Olympian Marathoner Wimalasena Perera once again appointed the chairman of the National Athletic selection Committee for a one year period. The 77-year-old veteran Marathoner who took part at the 1968 Mexico Olympics had an unbroken National marathon record from 1966 to 1991. He took part at the Asian Games as well as the Commonwealth Games in 1966.

The former Army official Wimalasena was appointed to the same post for the seventh consecutive year.

2023 has a packed schedule with lot of international events as the Asian Games which is scheduled to be held in China next June is the key event where all athletes are focused on. Our athletes are doing well to take more medals at the International level and Sri Lanka Athletics headed by Rt Major General Palitha Fernando and his team are doing a superb job, said Wimalasena Perera .

D. Dayaratne, Manoj Mallawarachchi, Dr Janaka Prasad and Renuka Perera are the other members of the National athletic Selection Committee. Except Renuka Perera all others are re appointed by the Sports Ministry.
