Moratuwa University wins Chess title

The University of Moratuwa won both the Inter University Men’s and Women’s Chess titles convincingly scoring full 10 points out of possible 10.

The Moratuwa boys beat South Eastern, Ruhuna, Sri Jayawardenapura, Peradeniya and Jaffna Univeresities while Moratuwa Girls beat Universities of Jaffna, Sabaragamuwa, Rajarata, Colombo and Peradeniya without resistance.

The Moratuwa Men’s team was led by Chathulanka Gamage comprised Khrishna Rahul Jeyanthan, Prasanjith Lorensuhewa, NPG Sithija Lahiru, Thisen Thiyasara, Anjana Herath, Kaveen Ishara and D.R Naotunna while the women’s team comprised V.N.W Siriwardana (Captain), Anuki Pasquel, Piyumali Karunathilake, Tanuli Inoshi, Pasaindi Yathra Wijesuriya, Naduni Peththanayake and Sakuni Bandara.

The second position of Men’s segment went to Sri Jayawardenapura University with eight match points while Colombo University became third with seven match points. University of Ruhuna also scored seven match points but placed fourth on poor tie breaking points. The second in Women’s segment is Colombo University with seven match points after the tie breaker while the Peradeniya became third also with seven points. Rajarata University also scored seven match points but placed fourth on poor tie breaking points.
