The Supreme Court verdict on the 13 Fundamental Rights petitions filed by the victims of the Easter Sunday carnage is a significant and a historic one, Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said. He stated this commenting on the Supreme Court verdict of Thursday (12) which ordered five individuals including former President Maithripala Sirisena to pay compensation in millions to the victims of the Easter attack, at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday.
He pointed out that this verdict reflects that any high-profile person including the Executive President has no protection from the law if they have committed a crime. This would be a good precedent to the future leaders and officers as well, the Archbishop stressed.
He further said that he would not give up the attempts being made until the truth behind the Easter attack is revealed.
“Once the truth and the conspiracy behind the attack is revealed, the justice also completes”, he further said.
